Well, here we are almost a full two weeks into the New Year- how are your resolutions going? I don’t really do resolutions other than taking a deep breath on January 1st and think about how to make this year even better than the last.
- We ate a lot of bad food while we were away for the Holidays so that we are trying to get back on track.
- We have also vowed to run one 5K race a month which means I need to be a little more serious about my treadmill workouts.
- And, after taking a year off from school to settle into a new job last year I am finally back to hitting the books!! (Can anyone tutor me in a little English?) I am taking English Comp II this semester- however, I took English Comp I many many years ago so I hope I have retained something.
So in taking a break from my new year/new life, I am going to once again share some of my favorite things I have going on this week beginning with….
As we try to eat better in the New Year we are always trying to sneak healthier things into our diet. We will still buy iceberg or spring leaf lettuce sometimes but we like to mix it up with the darker stuff like kale, spinach or my personal favorite- arugula. Arugula adds a little peppery flavor. A little spiciness to an otherwise ordinary salad. LOVE.
2. Chia Seeds
In keeping with a healthier theme for the start of the New Year, we are adding chia seeds to our salads, veggies and even in smoothies. I did a post on chia seeds and its benefits not too long ago and they are truly magical. Chia seeds are high in fiber, omega-3 acids and protein. Sprinkle the seeds on about anything and boom!! Instant health. Who doesn’t want instant health?
3. Hot Tea
I live on tea year round. Every morning at work after I drink my hot water with lemon I have a cup or two of green tea. I work in a very very cold environment so even in the middle of the Florida summer I am drinking some type of tea. I don’t drink much coffee. I love experimenting with tea- I am currently on a roasted dandelion root kick right now. I also always have a gallon of cold hibiscus tea in my fridge. Delicious.
4. Charming Charlie
Have you been in this store yet? It’s like a fancy jewelry boutique, only better because the prices are incredibly low. Charming Charlie isn’t the highest of quality but for the prices you can certainly stock up and develop quite a collection of eye candy. I have certain stores Chad has banned me from and so far he hasn’t caught on to my Charming Charlie obsession but I have a feeling I will be banned soon.
5. My animals
Isn’t this picture adorable? A friend of mine from work pieced this together. My two black cats are Zoey and Sully and they have been my sidekicks for 12 years. Then we found Lenore Raven Poe a few years ago and she has become such a big part of our family. She is about the happiest of all kittens I know. The pups is Gypsy, my Mom’s dog in New York City. She too is just a happy pup- always has a smile on her face. I can’t imagine my life without these guys. I love this picture- but Sully sure looks angry to have to be in this picture with all these girls!!
So that’s my Friday Favorite list- what are you loving this week?
