Happy Friday!!! When I worked as a Flight Attendant, I logged many hours, days and months away from home spent in foreign cities. I love staying in hotels, even still to this day. However, hotels are so impersonal. I always had certain staples I would bring with me so I would feel a little more at home. Chad and I have been doing so much traveling lately it is nice to be home for a few days before we go back out on the road again one last time before a nice long home stay-cation. I still have certain things I take with me when we do hit the road. Sometimes it is nice to have a pillow or a blanket from home with you. Here are my favorite on the road necessities: Home Comforts on the Road.
1. My Sleeping Mask
I sleep with a sleeping mask even at home. I love them. They are just the greatest way to shut out the world whether on a plane or in a strange hotel room.
2. Glade Candles
I stock up on these every time I see them on sale. There is nothing worse than trying to sleep in a stinky musty hotel room. I always carry these with me. There is nothing better than lighting a candle to invoke a relaxing atmosphere in a strange hotel.
3. A Good Book
Of course, a good book can really take you away. Even when you are away. I am currently reading From Scratch: Inside The Food Network. This is a big book but it is full of interesting information about the start of the Food Network and how it has evolved into the cable channel we all know to this day. I work in television so it is even more fascinating to me.
4. A Reliable Travel Alarm Clock
An absolute MUST for when I worked as a Flight Attendant. You can never rely on wake up call from the hotel front desk and I certainly don’t always trust those radio alarm clocks in the room. Of course, nowadays, travel alarm clocks are a thing of the past as we all have alarms on our phones. I still have mine from my airline days.
5. My neckroll and blanket
If we are driving I always bring my neckroll and blanket (too big to fit in a suitcase for the plane.) I love my neckroll and use it every night. I have a real hard time sleeping without it. And of course, I never use the bedspread at a hotel (I hope you don’t either!!) and hotel rooms can get pretty cold at night. I love this blanket I got at Bath and Body Works a few years ago and try to bring it with me everywhere. I even have one I keep at work (TV studios are f-f-f-freezing sometimes all the time!!!)
6. Clorox Wipes
Ya, I’ve seen those stories on TV where the reporter carries a black light into a hotel room. I take my Clorox Wipes everywhere and wipe down the room when we first get there. The TV remote is the most important thing to me to wipe down first, followed by the doorknobs, light switches and the door to the mini fridge. I invest in the travel packets when traveling by plane.
What items do you have to take with you when you travel? What items can you not live without?

Towels!! I'm trying to avoid them since they add extra weight to my luggage, but oh man, my home towels are special, and oh well, they haven't been used by a 1,000 people ;)
