Is it Friday already?? I am so excited- this is the weekend of the Star Wars Dark Side inaugural half marathon. Mr. Beet and I hit the expo yesterday to beat the crowds, though we are not big Star Wars fans, we had an opportunity to run this weekend we decided to go for it. I have no intention of setting any type of a PR (personal record time) as I know I will be stopping and taking a lot of pictures during the race.
And now here are the things I have been loving this past week:
Speaking of half marathons, Mr. Beet and I ran the Rock’n’Roll Raleigh Half Marathon last weekend and it was forecasted to be much colder than we had expected. We needed throwaway clothes so we found a Target store near our hotel and Mr. Beet found these flannel pajamas for $5 – perfect cold weather running gear, right? Well, he sure did get a lot of comments from other runners at the race. He looked like he rolled out of bed and decided to run a marathon. He wore them for the first few miles before ditching them as he was warm enough by that point.
We spent about two weeks on the road and visited Savannah, Charleston and Raleigh. While in Charleston we visited a beautiful plantation that also had a petting zoo. So fun. I made some new friends. Like Lilly the Billy goat who posed for a selfie with me.
And then there was Gracie the Doe who showered me with kisses.
Also while in Charleston, I found my new favorite store. Southern Season – it has been described as a cross between Williams-Sonoma, Whole Foods and World Market. Mr. Beet really had to reign me in from spending every last dime of our travel money.
The one thing I found there was the entire line of the Hibiscus teas from Republic of Tea. As many of you know, I am never without my hibiscus iced tea in my fridge at home – and I had no idea there were so many flavors!!
And I found this outside a restaurant in Charleston- this repurposed grill/chair. So cute.
While away I had a kombucha every day. Gosh I love that stuff. My favorite was this Grapefruit Sage flavor – oh my.
And speaking of kombucha, while at Whole Foods recently I found a shelf of the Synergy brand labeled as alcoholic. I learned that some kombucha has to be labeled as such because it may possibly contain more than .05% of alcohol. With Synergy they actually make two different versions – the classic, black label which is considered to be an alcoholic beverage, and the Enlightened, white label which contains less than .05% alcohol. Interesting, isn’t it?
And while at Whole Foods I picked up this coffee sleeve – I love it.
One last thing, if you are here in the Central Florida area come see me at the Orange County Public Library in downtown Orlando Monday night. I will be whipping up a summer picnic with lavender lemonade, veggie wraps and chocolate avocado pudding!! Here’s more details:

That petting zoo is so cool! Usually they're still behind gates. I need to head down there and check it out!

Ok, I am totally behind you all on the flannel pajamas! That would be so fun to run in them if it's cold outside. :)
Those billy goats are cute, and I can't believe you actually had a doe come right up to you. Aren't God's creatures amazing?
