Chuy's Kissimmee

The first Chuy’s opened in Austin, TX in 1982 and has become a chain of Tex-Mex/Mexican restaurants spreading across the country.  Their gimmick is an Elvis shrine, a ceiling of hubcaps and bright colors in every restaurant.

Chips and Salsa Chuy's The Hungry Sprout

Chuy’s has a new location on International Drive in Orlando as well as an outlet in Kissimmee.  We visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was not very busy.  We were seated right away and immediately brought chips and salsa, typical of any Mexican joint.  The menu is also fairly typical of any Mexican restaurant- nachos, enchiladas, tacos and fajitas.  They also claim to have burritos “as big as yo’ face.”  Hmmmm… it Moe’s or Tijuana Flats that claim the same thing?  Chuy’s isn’t very original but the food is decent.

Veggie Enchiladas

Chad ordered the Veggie Enchiladas which was served with the ordinary Mexican rice and beans.  However, the enchilada itself was stuffed with spinach, yellow squash, zucchini, onions, red bell peppers, serrano peppers, corn and cheese rolled into a blue tortilla and topped with a mild vegetarian tomato sauce (also known as their Ranchero sauce.)  It was pretty tasty and a little spicy.  He really loved the fact that the enchiladas were overstuffed with the veggies and had very little cheese.

Vegetarian Combo

I had the Vegetarian Combination platter which consisted of a veggie enchilada and a cheesy chile relleno alongside rice and beans.  It wasn’t terrible, but it was also not very special.

Veggie Enchilada

We did like the fact that they offered more than beans and cheese for Vegetarians.  We would go there again if we are in the area.

We went to Chuy’s in Atlanta and we have been to better Mexican restaurants but this one had pictures of dogs all over the walls which, of course, we loved :-)
