Friday Favorites- A Cooking Class, Beets Blu and the Irish

Share the love :)

One day until the weekend and I don’t have one single thing planned. Nowhere I have to be, nobody I have to see, no appointments, no commitments, nothing. I am so happy about that. All I have is a list of things I want to get done around the house- little things that have been on my to do list, things that are so little that I just keep putting them off, thinking I can do that later. Well, later is now.

And I have already lied. I do have a commitment this weekend. Just one. Welcome to Five Things Friday Favorites where I am joining the party with Heather from Life in Leggings.   Things I am loving this week. Things I want to talk about.

1. The Forks Over Knives Plant Based Cooking School

Forks Over Knives

I signed up for a 3-month online cooking course with Forks Over Knives and the Rouxbe Cooking School (these are not affiliate links). Do you remember that movie, Forks Over Knives? I once called it a horror movie because I had never seen so much horror in how animals are treated and how poorly we eat as Americans. Ugh. Well last year the folks behind the Forks Over Knives campaign started a cooking class for those looking to improve their plant based culinary skills. And apparently this class is no joke. We are graded on weekly assignments where we will be learning things like knife skills and new cooking techniques, then preparing recipes. We are required to take pictures of our completed homework assignments. Our first major assignment due this weekend is clearing out all the bad processed food from our kitchens.

2. Beets Blu Smart Scale

Beets Blu Scale

I received a Beets BLU Bluetooth Scale just before Christmas- just in time for me to document the healthy changes I am intending to make in the New Year. I really love this scale. Basically, the scale connects to my phone’s Bluetooth and records my weight as well as my BMI (body mass index). While I have never really been one to fret over my weight in numbers, I do concern myself with the percentage of body fat I carry around. (And whether or not my clothes feel tight) The scale and app does all the work for me, calculating all the numbers and helping me to reach some goals I have set for myself. I really love it.This is the most fun I have ever had with a scale. (And yes, the company did send me a scale in exchange for my honest thoughts on the product and my opinions are my own. The above link is an Amazon affiliate link and your support is always appreciated)

3. My first Notre Dame basketball game

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Beauty and the Beets

Last week I attended my first basketball game at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend. I have always been a sort of Notre Dame fan growing up and my fandome grew after I met Chad 9 years ago. He is from Indiana and while he went to Purdue, he grew up as a Fighting Irish fan. I love going to college sporting events and while we were in Indiana we had the opportunity to go see a game with an old high school friend of Chad’s.

We also spent a little bit of time walking around the campus before the game and while it was cold, it was just beautiful. And there was snow on the ground.

And I found Walsh Hall, the dormitory bearing my last name. So now I really have to be a big Notre Dame fan, right? I laugh because there is a Twitter account for Walsh Hall- the handle is @WalshWILDwoman – how fitting.

4.  SNOW

And speaking of Notre Dame, there was snow on the ground up there. I got my yearly snow fix. And now I am ready for weather in the mid 70’s.

5. Angel From Hell

Angel From Hell CBS TV

Did you watch this show last night? CBS added this show to its Thursday night line up. In my opinion it’s the funniest night on TV with The Big Bang Theory and Mom, two of my favorite comedies. Angel From Hell stars Jane Lynch as a….I am going to call her a dysfunctional Guardian Angel and it is hilarious. And Mike and Molly finally started its new season this week too. Another one of my favorites!

My favorite  Beets post of the week:

Rock'n'Roll Marathon Beauty and the Beets

And my Meatless Monday recipe from this week:

Recipe Apple Pie Crescent Rolls Beauty and the Beets

And that is it from Beetsland! Thank you for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. I will see you on Monday!!
