There are a lot of really cool places to eat in Jacksonville, some are quite flashy and modern, while others are quaint and comfy. Cool Moose Cafe is part of the latter group. They have a small storefront along Park Street in the Riverside neighborhood of the city. The Cool Moose Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch so be sure to get there by 3pm most days (4pm on Saturday and closed on Monday).
We chose to eat here a) we heard really good things….and b) he wanted breakfast, I wanted lunch.
Mr. Beet ordered the Brioche French Toast – two super thick slices of buttery bread, dipped in custard and grilled. Topped with blueberries, strawberries, and walnuts, then sprinkled with powdered sugar.
He loved how tall the bread was. Mr. Beet is one of these odd people that can eat an entire plate of French toast without syrup. I would have needed an entire giant bottle of maple syrup to cover those slices.
Fearing that two slices of French toast wouldn’t be enough (they were), he had also ordered a plain egg and cheese sandwich on an Everything bagel. It was a pretty good sized sandwich for under $3.
As I was craving lunch, I had heard raving reviews about the Half Pound Angus Burger. It was very simple with just cheddar, lettuce, and tomato. Sometimes I just crave a good burger and this did not disappoint.
And the fries were crispy and hot, not soggy like some places.
We enjoyed our meal. Again, it’s a rather small spot so I can only imagine the wait for a table on a weekend morning. But I think you will find it is certainly worth a visit. 4 1/2 out of 5 sprouts.
