Among the high rise condos and modern architecture of Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami sits a little sandwich shop with an enormous menu and an even bigger following. The Daily Creative Food Company has a line out the door virtually every waking moment. They offer gourmet breakfast sandwiches and egg platters, delectable salads and sandwiches, homemade soups and hand crafted beverages.
We stopped in early on a Sunday morning for a few beverages and a sandwich to carry out and after we paid, the process became confusing. My companion Chad waited in one area for our beverages while I was sent to an area near a back exit to pick up the food. There is no waiting area, I stood right next to the expediter plating up the food, totally in his way but there was no else to stand. It was awkward and uncomfortable to just be standing there as food is flying out of the kitchen and staff is navigating through myself and others who were sent there to wait for their food. I couldn’t wait in the big spacious dining area where I was out of harms way?
My companion Chad fared better while waiting for the beverages. We had been accidentally given an extra beverage. When we pointed out the mistake to one of the ladies behind the counter she didn’t seem concerned and told us to keep it. A nice bonus to compensate my potential loss of an eyeball waiting for the food.
We both ordered frozen concoctions- I had the Green Tea Freeze which was very delicious. It was Green Tea and cream blended into a frozen treat.
Chad had ordered the Mango Madness and saying it tasted like Mango was an understatement. It was mango blended with mango with added mango. There was no ice used as a filler here. His drink was nothing but mango. And it was delicious and so tropical just like Miami.
Our “extra” drink was the Tropical Berry smoothie. Mango and pineapple was blended with a berry mix and again, it was all fruit. Just next door here is one of those national chains known for their overpriced watered-down smoothies that will be at of business if they are trying to compete with The Daily Creative.
We only ordered one sandwich to split among us and we picked a good one. The Gourmet is a sandwich with three scrambled eggs, asparagus, mushrooms, onions, spinach and provolone cheese served on a fresh Kaiser roll. It was stuffed, hot and quite filling.
There are plenty of egg options on the menu, as well as other specialties like Cuban Pork Hash and Fruit Parfait. The Daily Creative Food Company also offers freshly baked bakery items like croissants and guava pastries.
For later in the day, there is an extensive menu of gourmet salads and sandwiches. Anyone from the strictest Vegan to the biggest fan of meat will find something to dine on. Everything has a twist- the pork sandwich is topped with a black bean corn salsa and the tuna is made with wasabi mayo. The turkey is served with cranberry chutney and the pressed veggie panini is made with a sun-dried tomato pesto.
Other than being sent back into the kitchen (practically) to pick up my sandwich this was one of our favorite places in Miami. Incredibly stuffed sandwiches and real fruit smoothies are going to keep this place among the most popular and loved restaurants in the city. 4 1/2 out of five sprouts.
