I would not normally think of steamed mussels and lobster tacos when talking about food at a sports bar, but that is exactly what I got at Duffy’s. Duffy’s Sports Grill isn’t exactly a sports bar, though there is a full liquor bar with almost a million TV’s to watch about any sport on. There is also a dining room with table service, though also nestled among almost a million big screen televisions. (Does anyone even use the word televisions anymore?)
I was recently invited to sample their menu, and sample we did. I started my meal with the Prince Edward Island Mussels, probably one of my favorite appetizers. They were so good, I ate the entire one pound of mussels by myself. However, if you are a fan of good mussels, you know that isn’t too hard to do.
And naturally, every great bowl of mussels is always served with crusty French bread to dip into the delicious Scampi butter.
My dining companion, Mr. Beet, ordered the Toasted Margherita Flatbread. The Flatbread was topped with lots of cheese and fresh basil, easily large enough to make a nice lunch with a side salad.
As my entrée I ordered from the new Surf N’ Turf menu. The menu includes items such as an Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl, a Lobster Club Sandwich, a Bone-In Ribeye, Strip Steak and Clam Strips. I chose the Lobster Tacos, usually served as an appetizer, but I did, after all, just eat a pound of mussels. The Lobster Tacos were very simple, breaded lobster meat with shredded cabbage, pico de gallo and a cilantro cream sauce. The lobster was quite meaty as well.
Mr. Beet went for the another new menu item- the Quinoa Mushroom Kale Veggie Burger. I have to tell you that Mr. Beet is a fan of neither mushrooms or kale, his preference would have been the black bean burger. However, I talked him into trying the new burger. And he was not disappointed. We both love to eat veggie burgers when dining out, but ONLY if they are made in house. We are immediately turned off by places that serve those frozen veggie burgers you can buy at the local grocery store, and that is what a lot of places use. I fully expected a sports restaurant to serve the frozen mass market stuff, so I was very pleasantly surprised to learn the veggie burgers are made fresh in house.
The veggie burger was very fresh and very well flavored. This was by far the one item that really impressed us. And the truffle fries were pretty good too.
Of course we could not pass up dessert. While there are some amazing options like Key Lime Pie and Fried Cheesecake, we chose the Salted Caramel Cookies. The cookies are baked daily with salted caramel, white chocolate and pretzel pieces. While they were pretty addictive, our one complaint is that they weren’t served warm!!
We really enjoyed our meal and loved the new items on the menu. To find a Duffy’s location near you, visit the Duffy’s Sports Grill website.
