There are certain things people do before running a half marathon, and one of those things is to carbo load the night before. We were preparing for the Rock’n’Roll Savannah Half Marathon and we were staying about 30 minutes away in Hilton Head, SC- one of our favorite cities. While there are plenty of Italian pasta bistros and restaurants, we were wanting something simple and fast. We found Fat Baby’s Pizza and Subs and decided on getting plates of pasta and bruschetta.
We ordered the combo bruschetta plate with half an order of traditional tomato bruschetta, and a half order of artichoke bruschetta. Both we equally tasty, though the artichoke version was more of a garlic bread than bruschetta. The artichoke was layered on a French baguette and topped with a blend of mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
For our main carb heavy entrees, Mr. Beet and I both ordered pasta- myself with traditional marinara sauce, and he had the spaghetti with white wine garlic sauce. Both were delicious.
Both were served with garlic bread which was a perfect accompaniment for our last meal before running 13.1 miles. I will admit, we were originally going here to have the pizza, something that has come highly recommended by several locals that we spoke with. We will have to save the pizza until next time. However, if the pizza is as good as the simple pasta dishes I don’t think we will be disappointed. 4 out of 5 sprouts.
