New York City seems to have a spot for a quick sandwich or salad on about every corner. New Yorkers are always on the move and need to get breakfast or lunch in less than a New York minute. Lucky for my Mother and I, we came across Flavors Cafe in lower Manhattan where we were looking for a quick bite for breakfast.
It was the large signs offering Quinoa Breakfast bowls that drew us in. They serve three styles of quinoa bowls- Asian, Spanish and Moroccan.
My Mom ordered the B2 (or the Mexican version)- two soft fried eggs over top kale, cilantro, feta, red onions, avocado, tortilla chips and gluten-free quinoa. A mild chipotle sauce rounds out this dish. A very healthy breakfast.
I went for the B3 (or the Moroccan version)- two soft fried eggs over kale, portabello mushrooms, caramelized onions, chickpeas, feta and quinoa mixed in a sweet and spicy traditional Moroccan sauce. Spicy enough to kickstart the morning, healthy and filling enough to keep you going throughout your travels.
We were very pleased. We also enjoyed the fresh homemade lemonade.
Other options include omelettes, bagels and yogurt parfaits for breakfast; sandwiches, salads, soups and pastas for the lunch crowd. There are three locations, all found in lower Manhattan. There are plenty of choices for all diets, however, you won’t find any pork here. 4 1/2 out of 5 sprouts.
