There’s a lot of great burrito restaurants in Jacksonville. One that immediately pops into my mind is Burrito Gallery in the Urban Core (downtown) neighborhood. And while I like Burrito Gallery, I have found another place in the San Marco area called Hightide Burrito.
Hightide Burrito opens at 8am during the week for breakfast. Breakfast entrees include tacos, burritos and quesadilla and range in price from under $2 to $5. Mr. Beet and I stopped in for lunch.
We started with the Chips and White Queso. The tortilla chips are made in house and you can taste the freshness.
I also wanted to try the Jalapeno Poppers, perhaps one of my most favorite appetizers and the poppers at Hightide didn’t disappoint.
Mr. Beet ordered the Baja Fish Tacos – hand breaded mahi mahi with shredded cabbage, pico de gallo and a tangy house sauce. The mahi was meaty and crunchy.
I tried the Vegetable Quesadilla which was STUFFED with green peppers and onions. Usually I order a quesadilla as they are not a very large entrée, but the Hightide Quesadilla was huge. And delicious.
We really liked the food, the dining room is pretty sterile and generic. There is a small salsa and sauces bar, ranging from mild to spicy. We tried one of the spicy sauces and I believe it was hot enough to knock your socks off. Wow. 4 1/2 out of 5 sprouts.
