Hello and welcome to Wednesday! This week for What I Ate Wednesday I am sharing a day of eats from my recent trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Chad and I were there for the Rock’n’Roll Savannah Half Marathon this past weekend. This is what I ate the day before the big run-
When I go to a restaurant there are two types of things I order. One is something I would never make at home, two is inspiration for something I would make at home. For breakfast we went to a place called Watusi and I ordered from the former category of something I would never make at home. First I ordered a cup of vanilla and cinnamon coffee (whipped cream and all!)
I also ordered shrimp biscuits and gravy. I would never make it at home because a) Chad doesn’t eat shrimp so I would have to modify it for him and b) it looks so complicated!! No? Well, whatever, it was delicious and so Southern. I love Southern food!
Those shrimp biscuits and gravy filled me up- there was no lunch but there was…..
We ate dinner early since we had to get up at 4am the next morning for the race down in Savannah. We ate a restaurant that is popular on the island called Chow Daddy’s. For an appetizer we started with the fresh radishes. Whole radishes were served in a bowl with olive oil and sea salt. Oh my….I will never eat plain ol’ radishes again without the oil and salt.
The salmon bowl was our version of carb-loading before our big run. I don’t know what they did to the salmon and I have no idea how they prepared the mashed potatoes but I will tell you it was the best salmon and mashed potatoes I have ever had. I will spend the rest of my days trying to recreate this bowl, exactly how they did it.
And what good is a healthy dinner without Brussels sprouts? I make these at home all the time and seeing them on a restaurant menu makes me sooooo happy.
So now the Beetsland food party has come to an end – be on the lookout for my Savannah Half Marathon recap coming soon- in the meantime get more What I Ate Wednesday posts by visiting the party at Peas and Crayons and Sprint2theTable. Happy eating y’all!
