We did a lot of research for a good seafood house before we drove into Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and one place kept popping up with great reviews everywhere I looked- Mr. Fish Seafood Restaurant. We visited during the off season when most places were closed until the spring so we were happy to find Mr. Fish open for business- and busy.
The menu is not for the seafood faint-of-heart. Mahi, Tuna, Shrimp and Oysters are just a few of the items served in quesadillas, tacos and pasta dishes. There’s bacon wrapped sea scallops and coconut encrusted mahi bites for an appetizer. For entrees, selections include Shrimp and Grits, Cioppino and Lump Crab Cakes.
Our server greeted us immediately and took the time to explain some of the specialty items on the menu. She also brought us a basket of hushpuppies with honey butter to get our appetite going. They were decent though a little doughy.
I had read rave reviews about their award-winning Black and Blue Tuna Sandwich and had to give it a try. A thick tuna filet perfectly spiced and grilled, topped with blue cheese, lettuce and tomato. I can completely understand why this is one of the more popular items on the menu.
I ordered the mac and cheese as my side. It was good though nothing special.
Chad had the California Grouper Sandwich– grilled grouper served with lettuce, tomato, spinach, avocado and a pesto mayonnaise. The sandwich is normally also topped with bacon which we asked to be left off. The grouper was very good.
Our server had also brought us a side of blackberry wasabi sauce. She had suggested it was delicious on the tuna sandwich, however, we used it as a dip for the fries we had also ordered with Chad’s sandwich.
It was obvious why Mr. Fish was so popular among the locals. And as an extra incentive, the owners operate the Fish Mobile, a bus that will pick up your party of 6 or more and take you to the restaurant for dinner and return you back to your home or hotel.
Mr. Fish also has a raw bar as well as a sushi bar. There is also a full-service lounge with specialty drinks and half price appetizers daily. This will definitely be on our places to visit again the next time we are in Myrtle Beach.
