We rarely venture out to the restaurants of International Drive due to the tourists, the traffic and the fact we have to pay for parking most places. However, we found ourselves at a hotel nearby and decided to walk over to the Pointe Orlando complex and try RA – a sushi bar and restaurant.
First of all, the atmosphere is pretty neat (yes, I said “pretty neat”)- red glowy lights hung from the ceiling and the restaurant was dark but inviting. Mysterious. Trendy industrial-like.
We started our meal with the Edamame Wontons – “lightly fried wontons filled with a creamy edamame cheese mix.” They were unbelievable. I’ve never had edamame quite like this. If I hadn’t already ordered my main entrée I would have asked for another plate of these and called it lunch.
My friend ordered the Spicy Salmon Bowl. The salmon was marinated in a spicy broth and served over wilted Asian greens, cucumbers and white rice. It was very enjoyable though after a while the taste became repetitive.
I had the Vegetable Tempura Bento Box. Crispy fried zucchini, white rice, a salad, a vegetable spring roll and a pork gyoza lined up nicely in a bento box. It was a good sized portion for the $7.85 price tag. I thought everything had a nice flavor (though I did not eat the pork gyoza.)
Both meals came with Miso Soup as a starter. Miso is one of my favorite soups as it is light and salty. The soup at RA was no exception. Flavorful, filling and yes….salty.
RA has restaurants in 9 U.S. states including 4 locations here in Florida. There is also a great Happy Hour menu with special pricing on sushi rolls, appetizers and tapas Monday thru Friday from 4-7pm. 4 1/2 out of 5 sprouts.
