On my hunt for the perfect veggie burger I found myself in the most unlikely of places to find a burger not made of meat. Better yet, a veggie burger that is made in house with fresh ingredients, not one that is frozen and sold in grocery stores as some places try to pass off as their own. I was in a sports bar. A sports bar. The kind of place you expect to find only wings, fries and pitchers of beer. But there is so much more to Salamanders Sports Grill.
I found a Vegan veggie burger here. This burger is made from scratch using organic quinoa, bread crumbs, 5 types of exotic beans, carrots, onions, celery and peppers.
I ordered mine with a mango-kiwi salsa I saw on the menu with another burger. The veggie burger and the salsa were fresh and made for an interesting contrast of flavors. I tasted sweetness, sourness and saltiness. And the veggie burger wasn’t dry and crumbly like many homemade burgers.
Turns out, everything at Salamanders is made from scratch and fresh to order. There is no microwave and no freezer (save for a small one to hold ice cream). There are some TV’s around the dining room but there’s no crowd screaming and cheering. The atmosphere is quite calming for a sports bar. Lots of windows and lots of light- very cheery.
There are some pretty amazing lunch specials including this plump salmon sandwich served with fries and a drink for only $8.
We didn’t have a lot of time to hang out here and really explore the menu (sounds like another trip is in store for us in the future) but I look forward to going back. 4 1/2 out of 5 sprouts.
