Seasons 52 5K and the Farmer’s Market

Seasons 52 start

Waking up early on a Saturday morning is never fun.  Waking up to have to go run a 5K in 40° early on a Saturday is also never any fun.  Chad and I, along with 1900 other runners were gathered in the cold for the start of the race at 7:30am.

Seasons 52 5K route

The race winds through some of the more elite neighborhoods in Winter Park, FL.  For me it is fun to just run through the brick streets lined with trees and big houses.

Seasons 52 5K

I can never run an entire race.  I end up walking through a lot of it and as I was walking a young girl who could not have been more than about 7 years old ran up to me and started to walk with me.  She showed me her adorable Wonder Woman socks she had gotten for Christmas (they even had little capes on them) and before I knew it she was racing off ahead of me.  Little show-off!!

Winter Park sunrail station

After the race we gathered in the runners village where booths were set up offering Cliff Bars, water and bananas.  Just a few feet away we saw the new Orlando commuter train race by.  Though the service is not open for business yet it was neat to see the train.  A collective gasp and hush radiated through the crowd as the commuter rail has been in the works for a long time here and everyone was impressed by the train.  Sorry- I didn’t get a picture of the new train- just a picture of the construction for the new Winter Park station.

Winter Park Farmer's Market strawberries

Just around the corner from the race site was the Winter Park Farmer’s Market where we picked up some fresh pasta for dinner (we even saw some dark chocolate pasta- interesting.)  It’s fun to stroll through all the farmer booths with their fresh fruits and veggies.

Croissant Gourmet Winter Park FL

We were hungry and there were plenty of great options for breakfast at the Farmer’s Market.  We instead decided to try this French bakery we passed during the race called the Croissant Gourmet.  It was good, we had croissants with eggs and spinach and salmon.

Orangina

They even had my favorite drink in the whole world…an Orangina!  You can always count on the French bakeries for Orangina!!

Kale juice

Heading home we were still feeling pretty healthy so we made fresh juice with some kale and apples we had in the fridge.  We had such a great and healthy start to our weekend!!  However, it was nice to be back home in the warm house and the ability to take a nap before tackling the rest of the weekend.

How do you like to start your weekends?  Do you go for a leisurely run?  Do you make a special breakfast?
