Chad and I are always on the hunt for good veggie burgers and while we were in Ft. Myers, I fell upon Square 1 Burgers. The veggie burger is made in house, not frozen, so for us it was a not to be missed restaurant.
First of all, the décor is very eclectic crazy cowboy-ish. I am not sure how else to describe it but it is fun and lively.
We started our meal with Fried Dill Pickle Chips served with a peppercorn ranch sauce. They were thin and lightly breaded- still juicy and tangy. Deliciousness.
Chad ordered the Very Vegan Veggie Burger– a homemade patty with leaf lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and avocados on a whole-wheat bun. The burger was flavorful, not dry and crumbly.
On the side he enjoyed the sweet potato fries with the Square 1 Sooner sauce, a chipotle ranch sauce. The fries were plump and crisp.
I had the Portobello Burger– a mushroom cap with avocado, tomatoes, goat cheese and a sun dried tomato spread on a whole wheat bun. I thought it was absolutely amazing- juicy and smoky. There is nothing better than a mushroom cap burger when it is cooked right and not overdone.
A side of steamed broccoli was a nice offering as I was not stuck with the fries and onion rings normally offered at burger places.
All in all, we thought Square 1 was a great burger joint. We hear rumors of an Orlando location opening soon and we will be sure to visit again. Next time we are springing for the fried green beans and the edamame. 4 out of 5 sprouts.
