I haven’t met too many sushi houses that I didn’t like. The Sushi Factory in Jacksonville is no exception. Located south of downtown Jacksonville, Sushi Factory sits in a small little strip mall next to a Whataburger and a Starbucks. There isn’t much else around in that area but it was close to our hotel and I was craving sushi.
Besides sushi, the Sushi Factory also offers other items on the menu such as Tempura, Teriyaki and Hibachi selections. They also have some delicious and very reasonably priced lunch specials. Of course, we were just there for the sushi and we took it to go.
We both ordered combos from the sushi bar that included soup and salad. I just love that ginger dressing most Japanese restaurants use on their house green salads. So delicious.
I had the miso soup with tofu, seaweed and scallions. No better and no worse than other miso soup I have had.
Chad tried the clear soup with mushrooms. Again, just a typical soup you would find in a any typical Japanese restaurant, but good.
He also went for the Vegetable Roll combo that consisted of a sweet potato roll, avocado roll and a cucumber roll. Chad isn’t much into the raw fish aspect of sushi. As a matter of fact, this was his first time ever even ordering actual sushi as opposed to his usual fried rice. Many people are turned off by the term “sushi” thinking it always involves raw fish when actually, the “sushi” is actually the vinegar rice that is often rolled with fish or veggies. He actually really liked it. They didn’t make skimpy little rolls. I really enjoyed the sweet potato rolls, something I have also never experienced before.
I went with the Maki Roll combo. I am normally pretty adventurous when it comes to sushi but this time I kept it simple with a tuna roll, a salmon roll and a California roll. Sometimes just the basics make the best meal. I thought everything was very good.
Again, we had our food to go and we kept it very simple. The prices were reasonable and the portions were large. We will certainly return for their Hibachi lunch specials though in the near future. They have a very large sushi menu too that I will be sure to dip into further next time. But for the basics they get a solid 4 sprouts out of five.
