The Floridian in St. Augustine

St. Augustine is one of our favorite places to spend the day. The Floridian in St. Augustine is also home to the best veggie burger EVER!!  Even if you don’t do the vegetarian thing this is a wonderful little place to grab lunch.

The Floridian St. Augustine

The Floridian fried house made picklesWe were hungry as we stepped into this tiny place.  Not a very big place but we have found that most places in downtown St. Augustine are quaint and cozy.  First we ordered the fried  house-made pickles.  The pickles were so fresh- I don’t even know how to describe what a “fresh” pickle tastes like other than that it was tangy and delicious.  The pickles are made on the premise- you can really tell the difference in my opinion.

The Floridian Spicy MeltFor our main dish, we split two entrees.  First we tried the Spicy Melt sandwich.  Blackened fish of the day (in our case it was Mahi Mahi), roasted red peppers, spinach, tomato, cheese and chipotle mayo served on whole wheat bread.  It was delightful.  I am not usually a big fan of things blackened- usually it is either too spicy or too salty.  However, this fish was perfect.  I apologize that my picture does not do justice for this sandwich.

The Floridian Black Bean and Sweet Potato Veggie BurgerFor our second entrée we ordered the Black Bean and Sweet Potato Veggie Burger.  We are always looking for a great veggie burger and The Floridian did not disappoint us!  Most places will offer a veggie patty that is usually the same frozen veggie patty you can buy at your local grocery store.  Not here.  This was neither sweet nor too salty.  You could see the black beans and sweet potatoes.  We had also ordered it with the pimento cheese topping which made it zesty and flavorsome.

We just loved this place. The service was great. The atmosphere was cozy. The food was served hot and in a timely manner. That veggie burger was the best ever. The pickles were so “fresh.” The fish sandwich was perfect. This will be a must-do every time we are in St. Augustine.
