First of all, this is not part of the famous Waffle House chain of restaurants that have a loyal following in the South- this is just a place in Kokomo, IN. Second of all, it doesn’t even look like the little yellow buildings of the chain famous for the hashbrowns. We knew we weren’t going to have our favorite scattered and smothered potatoes. We knew we weren’t going to listen to songs about the Waffle House playing on the jukebox.
This was just a random restaurant on the major highway through Kokomo that happens to be called Waffle House. We didn’t have high expectations and so we weren’t too disappointed. There wasn’t much to this place. And the hashbrowns were just hashbrowns. Probably frozen and heated up on the grill. Again, we didn’t expect the fabulous hashbrowns of the other Waffle Houses.
A typical menu of breakfast items and a few selections for lunch.
Chad had the French Toast- absolutely nothing special. It was OK.
I ordered the Fish and Chips. I didn’t expect much and didn’t get much. One piece of fried cod (previously frozen) with a side of crinkle (obviously frozen) french fries. What saved my meal was malted vinegar.
Perhaps my favorite part of the meal was my side salad. And it was nothing special. Truthfully, we wouldn’t go back. It was just a place to eat- not a place to experience some culinary masterpiece. It is what it is. Just a place for food. That is exactly what we expected. Just a place for lunch. And there is a stuffed snake in the sign. Weird. Don’t even care to know the story behind that. Must be an inside joke used to scare potential patrons?
The only reason we ate here is because we have passed it so many times on the road and for us the name Waffle House is such a novelty and we were just curious. That’s all.
We knew what we were getting but still- not a great restaurant. Boring. A great place if you like bland food that is frozen and just cooked to order. But in their defense, I don’t think (at least I hope not) they are trying to be some great foodie destination. We didn’t like it much. At least they had the Colts ketchup on the tables.
And if you look them up online, Google and Urbanspoon seems to think they are associated with the famous chain. Again they are not. They have no dedicated website.
