Welcome to What I Ate Wednesday– or WIAW- Cedar Point Edition!
A few weeks ago I attended BloggyCon, a bloggers conference at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio. Chad took the trip with me and together we had fun exploring the cuisine of the town. We actually only ate once in the park, and only because there was a Chickie and Pete’s. Anyone from Philadelphia is familiar with Chickie and Pete’s and their famous crabfries.
We tried to go visit Pink’s in the park. Pink’s is a rather famous hot dog stand in Los Angeles and are known for having amazing veggie dogs. Pink’s was the one place I was looking forward to visiting at Cedar Point. I had been planning to go there for months leading up to the conference. However, I was massively disappointed to find that the Cedar Point location doesn’t serve the veggie dogs.
However, we ate at a few of the local restaurants in the town of Sandusky and we were pleasantly surprised at finding a few places that did serve some Vegetarian cuisine. My experiences in the Midwest has led me to believe that in this part of the country, being a Vegetarian or even a Pescatarian is not very popular.
One night we found these amazing pretzel bites at a restaurant called Berardi’s Family Kitchen.
We tried the veggie burger with fried green tomatoes. Not bad.
The next night we enjoyed a pear gorgonzola pizza and zucchini fries at a place called The Brick Oven Bistro.
When the conference was over, we headed back into Indiana where we had planned on visiting Chad’s family for a few days, stopping at a Big Boy along the way. I remember eating at Big Boy in my childhood. I was pleased they offer a salad bar here.
We took a day trip to Saugatuck and Grand Haven, Michigan where we had a cod sandwich and a salmon burger at The Butler Inn.
And lastly, one can’t start the fall without pumpkin flavored something. In my case, it was the incredibly fattening Pumpkin Pie Blizzard at Dairy Queen.
The trip ended with a visit to the local apple farm where I enjoyed their homemade apple dumplings (sorry- didn’t get a pic of the dumpling!) Chad and I weren’t wanting to leave the cool 60° weather to return to the hot 90° Florida heat. Somehow, apple dumplings just aren’t the same down here.
Thank you to Jenn from Peas and Crayons for hosting the What I Ate Wednesday link up!
