Orlando is home to a number of celebrity restaurants- from Emeril to Gloria Estefan to Wolfgang Puck. The latter has a couple of outlets found in the Downtown Disney complex. There is a Wolfgang Express Cafe located in the Marketplace area of the property and then there is a two story restaurant on the Westside.
The upstairs part of the restaurant is a more formal dining experience open for dinner only. Downstairs is the Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe – a casual full service cafe with a selection of pizzas, burgers and sushi. We stopped in for lunch. The dining room itself is bright and cheery with a wall of windows to overlook the lake behind the Downtown Disney complex.
We started our lunch with the Garlic and White Bean Hummus. While we don’t normally order hummus while dining out (since it is so easy to make at home) but I am glad we made an exception. The creamy hummus was delicious and served with house made crostini.
I especially loved the whole white beans and roasted garlic cloves mixed into the hummus.
Wolfgang Puck made a name for himself introducing gourmet pizzas to the world. He slowly began to introduce pizzas with fancy toppings like roasted vegetables and pesto. He is responsible for the gourmet pizza explosion.
We ordered the Roasted Vegetable Pizza with pesto and goat cheese. I don’t know what he does different to pizza but it was better than most. I loved the cherry tomatoes, black olives and fresh herbs with the pesto.
We also wanted to try the Quinoa and White Bean veggie burger. The burger was topped with arugula, pickled onions, shredded carrots and lemon aioli.
As I have been on the hunt for the best veggie burger in Orlando this may be in my top 3. There was nothing dry or crumbly about this veggie patty and the toppings just added extra flavor.
I felt like I was eating a plate of healthiness.
As a special treat, we also ordered a Nada Colada. It was a hot day and we were in the mood for a frozen non-alcoholic treat. The Nada Colada is a Pina Colada (sans the rum) with a float of strawberry puree. Yum.
The Wolfgang Puck Cafe also has a dedicated sushi bar. Wolfgang Puck himself is also known for introducing innovative and unique sushi into mainstream cuisine. A true pioneer and the sushi here looked delicious.
I think for a casual lunch the Wolfgang Puck Cafe cannot be beat. Especially in an atmosphere like Disney. However, be prepared to do a little walking- it is a bit of a walk from the parking garage as there is no parking right at the restaurant. I think you will find it to be worth the hassle. 4 1/2 out of 5 sprouts.
