I recently accepted an invitation to spend a month working out at my local YouFit health club. For me personally, this has come at a great time for my fitness plans as I am slowly returning to marathon training after having foot surgery. While this is a sponsored post, I want to tell you that I am really loving this gym!
First, let me tell you a little about the YouFit organization. The concept was founded in 2008 by Rick Berks. He wanted to start a fitness club that would cater to the everyday person, someone just looking to get fit on their own time, in their own way. There are now over 100 clubs in 14 states, all featuring brand new weight training and cardio equipment.
My location is in Altamonte Springs, Florida- one of the clubs that also offer YouGX classes. I’ve been taking advantage of the flexible class schedule with instruction in Cardio Kickbox, Yoga and Zumba. My favorite class has been the Total Sculpt, a class that is a bit slower paced and having less impact on my healing foot. To find a class schedule near you please visit the YouGX Schedules website or learn about each class here with class descriptions.
However, perhaps my most favorite feature of the YouFit clubs is the Express Circuit workout, a 30-minute track featuring cardio and resistance training. Moving from one exercise or equipment is very easy as a series of red and green lights guide you when to begin and when to switch machines. As I normally spend most of my gym time on the treadmill, I love the opportunity to work on my arms and legs in such a short amount of time.
Something else that has really stood out for me at YouFit is how approachable everyone on the staff is. Every staff member I have spoken with has offered to help me learn a new piece of equipment, learn a new cardio exercise or offer me a few pointers to achieve my fitness goals. After being off my feet for several months I am leaning more towards a goal of losing some weight and I have gotten a lot of very helpful advice from the YouFit staff.
I think the atmosphere is very welcoming as well. I have seen both men and women, from superfit to not-so-fit, from older to young adults. I didn’t feel like I was swimming in a sea of hard bodies showing off their svelt physiques, looking for their next fling. I felt comfortable among others were like-minded, each with our fitness goal, each of us at different stages in attaining our results.
Another cool note worth pointing out was the recycled materials used in the building of these gyms. YouFit is working to be the “greenest” gym in the United States. While the heating, cooling, water and power systems are all energy-efficient, the floors are what was the most impressive to me. Some of the flooring is made out of recycled tires and Nike sneakers. What an excellent way to put your old running shoes to good use!
Memberships start at $10 a month for the single-club passes or for $20 you can purchases the Lime membership which grants you access to any YouFit location across the country, as well as unlimited classes and even guest passes. Chad and I have already decided when my one-month membership ends, we are both going to join as Lime members. I have vowed to take up kick boxing so YouFit is a perfect choice for me.
