3/14 Friday Favorites- My Berry Favorite Things

Share the love :)

This week we have been eating strawberries.  I mean, lots of strawberries.  Tons of strawberries.  I mean TONS of strawberries. This Friday Favroties I am sharing my berry favorite things.

Strawberry Half Flat

We went to the Florida Strawberry Festival outside of Tampa last weekend and we picked up a half flat of fresh strawberries for a mere $7.  A half flat of strawberries is 6 pints.  What are two people with no kids supposed to do with all those berries?

Welcome to my Friday Favorites.  Today it’s all about my favorite ways to enjoy strawberries!

1. My strawberry huller

Strawberry Huller

First of all, I am sucker for a fun kitchen gadget.  My Mom and I each got one of these a few years ago at Williams and Sonoma and we both thought it was just the cutest little thing.  Today, neither of us really use it.  It is very time consuming and just easier to use a knife to hull a strawberry but darn it!  It’s cute and I am including it on my list.

2. Strawberry Smoothies

Perhaps the best advice we got about how to use our strawberries came from one of the farmers at the festival.  She told us to hull the strawberries, double bag them and freeze them.  Now we have fresh but frozen strawberries for our smoothies.  Red heart

3. Strawberry Shrimp Sushi

Mom and I had this at lunch in New York City a few years ago and I still dream about it.  Shrimp sushi topped with slices of strawberries and a spicy mayo sauce.  We had this at the Red Eye Bar and Grill across from Carnegie Hall.  I actually looked up their menu a few days ago and I don’t think they offer this anymore.  Sad because it was delicious and unexpected.

4. Strawberry-Basil Popsicle

Strawberry Basil at the Hyppo

I was so excited when The Hyppo Gourmet Popsicle Stand expanded from St. Augustine into Orlando and offered a variety of their famous popsicles downtown.  We have been here often and my favorite is still the Strawberry-Basil flavor.  (They have since changed their name to the Pop Parlour.)

5. In a good salad

Strawberry Salad

Seriously.  So easy.  A little arugula, a spicy nuts, a tangy cheese and some sweet strawberries.  Nothing better or easier.

6. Chocolate Covered (of course)

Chocolate Strawberry

Does this need an explanation as to why this would make anyones favorite list?

7. Deep Fried Candy Bars

Deep Fried Twix

OK OK, this is not a favorite way to enjoy a strawberry.  But when we were at the Strawberry Festival this past weekend we came across a place that will fry almost anything from Oreos to Butter.  They even offered fried Pepsi.  I am never one to turn my nose up at anything fried am I?  Chad and I tried to fried Twix bars.  Wow!!  There are no words other than Heavenly.  Dreamy.  Wow.  I just had to include this on the list.

Deep Fried Oreos

What do you like to do with strawberries?  Have you ever tried  one of those fried things?

I’ll take ALL of the above :-) Sadly, The Redeye Grill changed their menu big time and dropped a lot of things from their menu that we loved so now we don’t go there anymore. Sometimes one just needs to leave well-enough (in this case great) alone :-(
