From Surgery to Running. I am chronicling my journey from having foot surgery to running again. I had surgery on December 5, 2014 for a bunionectomy which required the breaking of my foot, removing some bone, then receiving 2 screws to hold my foot back together. The recovery process was three months before I was allowed to begin running again.
I’ve been slowly trying to get back on the running train though I am still just doing one simple mile a day. I’ve gotten really out of shape since my surgery. There are some days that my foot still aches pretty bad and I have to take a little break and sit. There are other days that I don’t feel a thing. My Doctor at the Orlando Foot and Ankle Clinic did tell me that it could be a full 9 months before I feel “normal” again.
All I know is that I am finally out of that boot and I can wear open toed shoes again. There is nothing better than looking down at my pedicured pink-colored toes peeking out of my favorite sandals!
As I continue to prepare for training for my three upcoming half marathons I was contacted by a company called JournalMENU. They create custom journals for a variety of activities from art to fitness. I was sent this awesome personalized runners’ journal.
This is so perfect for me right now as I start running again. There are pages for 5K and Half Marathon training, pages for my goals, personal records and pace charts.
On each page there is an inspirational saying to keep you going. Everyone knows how much I adore inspirational thoughts!
The bulk of the journal is a daily diary where I keep track of my fitness and my meals. It’s a great way to see my running progress as well as my food intake. I’ve always thought I ate pretty healthy but having to write everything down really makes me see where I could use some improvement.
JournalMENU has graciously offered to sponsor a giveaway for readers of Beauty and the Beets! One lucky winner will win a $25 gift certificate to create their own personalized running journal at JournalMENU.com! Enter to win below.

I've never been a runner, but I"ve been thinking of joining a half-marathon training group this summer! This journal would be a huge motivational aid!
