I hope everyone had a wonderful and filling Thanksgiving Day. Chad and I stayed at a nice resort here in the Orlando area and enjoyed a relaxing staycation while Mom was in town. Though we had a very nice kitchen at our condo we ate out quite a lot. That’s what you do on vacation anyway right? So now it’s time to get back on track…. Welcome to Vegan Monday. A few months ago I made a Kale Salad with Peanut Dressing based off the Kale Salad found at the Houston's restaurants and it has [continue reading...]
Green Erth Bistro – Jacksonville
Green Erth Bistro is a quaint little restaurant in San Marco and specializes in organic, Persian and Vegan cuisine, according to them. Organic and Persian? Sure. Vegan? Well, they have a few Vegan dishes on the menu and if that means they specialize in it..well..OK. Jacksonville doesn't have a large offering of anything Vegan so I guess you just take what you can get. Not that we are Vegan, I just thought it interesting they claim the Vegan thing when about 90% of their menu are meat [continue reading...]
11/22: Friday Favorites #3
Here we go- round #3- of Friday Favorites: 1. Whole Foods Hummus Hummus is the greatest snack ever. Hummus is also so popular now that it can be found anywhere, however, my favorite is that from the Whole Foods brand. This hummus is made fresh at the store so it isn’t trucked in and left to sit in a stockroom before being sold. Love the Whole Food brand and their abundance of flavors. 2. Blueberry Yogurt Pretzels Seriously, who invented these things? I love [continue reading...]
Waffle House or Huddle House?
Those of us fortunate to live in the South know the meaning of the words scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, diced, peppered, capped, topped and country. At least how those words all relate to food or more specifically- hashbrowns. These are all words used to custom order those beloved Waffle House hashbrowns. Waffle House is a true Southern institution though there a few scattered as far north as Ohio and as far west as Arizona. However, down here in the South, especially in Orlando, there [continue reading...]
11/15: Friday Favorites #2
I am liking these posts. This is a series of posts that have inspired a large group of my fellow bloggers to think about their favorite things and then post about them. I love reading them. I love learning what other people are into these days. Here is my first Friday Favorites from last week in case you missed it. And here is my current list for this week: 1. Mexicane Cola It all started when My Mom and I were eating at a Mexican restaurant in New York City about a month ago. [continue reading...]
The Spotted Pig – New York City
If you find yourself walking around West Village- step off the main drag of Hudson Street and get to West 11th Street. Look for what you might think is a florist shop. There is no sign- just a spotted pig hanging over the door. You’ve arrived. Welcome to The Spotted Pig. Most days you will find a crowd of people waiting for a table. It could be minutes. It could be hours. But they are waiting. Waiting to get a taste of this eclectic establishment, partially owned by Jay-Z and [continue reading...]
Crisp Vegetarian Fast Food – New York City
I never write about fast food restaurants- I basically just don’t go to them anymore. Burgers and fried chicken don’t appeal to me. However, in the great city of New York there are vegetarian fast food places. Who could pass that up? There are a few different vegetarian fast food chains in the city but we stopped at Crisp Vegetarian. They have 2 locations in Manhattan, 1 in Brooklyn and 2 in northern New Jersey. The menu is great and the food really is produced in a fast [continue reading...]
Rosa Mexicano – New York City
Rosa Mexicano has 15 locations in 9 states plus 4 overseas including Dubai and Puerto Rico. They need more. They need to spread the love. This place is incredible. Probably the best and most unique Mexican food I have ever had the pleasure to experience. From the homemade Guacamole Molacjete to the vegetable tacos- everything was a culinary delight. We first spotted the guacamole cart near another table and were intrigued so we ordered our own for the table to share. Big [continue reading...]
Burrito Gallery – Jacksonville
Downtown Jacksonville has some really neat places to grab lunch. The area is called ”urban core” and the restaurants are packed at lunchtime. Once 5pm rolls around however, downtown Jacksonville becomes a ghost town even though the eateries stay open later. One such place that is jammed at lunchtime is called Burrito Gallery. A quick counter service place, Burrito Gallery offers up a selection of burritos, tacos, wraps and quesadillas along with nachos, chips and salads. On a recent [continue reading...]
Chart House- Jacksonville, FL
We dined at the Chart House during Jacksonville’s annual Eat Up Downtown event in August. A handful of restaurants in and around the immediate downtown area of the city sponsor a three-course bill of fare with a fixed price of $15, $25 or $35, depending on the establishment. The Chart House was offering a $25 menu which is an amazing for a place that is usually no less than about $50 a person for a similar meal. We made reservations for an early meal at 6pm and when we arrived, we were [continue reading...]
