Right in the heart of downtown Sandusky sits a wonderful place for crafty cocktails and made to order fresh guacamole. You can enjoy an early dinner before catching a show at the Sandusky State Theatre, or have a late dinner after returning from the islands on the Jet Express. Downtown Sandusky is really becoming a destination for more than just strolling. And Barra Mexican Cuisine is a great spot to try if you craving tacos.
Mr. Beet and I started with the build your own guacamole. We kept it simple, only adding tomatoes, onions and cilantro. However, you can add corn, black beans, feta, or anything from the list of about ten ingredients on the menu. It was quite delicious.
I ordered a side salad as well and it was served with corn, black beans, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, and topped with a chipotle lime dressing. Nothing special but satisfying.
For dinner, Mr. Beet ordered the two Vegetarian tacos on the menu. The black bean taco was served with cilantro lime rice, red peppers and queso.
His other taco consisted of fried cauliflower, barra slaw, and a lime aioli sauce. He liked both tacos though he would have preferred the cauliflower unbreaded.
I splurged on the chicken taco. While I do not normally eat meat, chicken tacos are a major soft spot for me. It was deliciously simple with shredded lettuce and cheese.
My favorite item was the street corn. The corn was still on the cob and rolled inĀ melted cheese, chili lime, and red pepper flakes. I think Barra did a fabulous job making the street corn their own.
Barra Mexican Cuisine is open late – until 10pm most nights and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. 4 1/2 out of 5 sprouts.
