Here I sit in Miami on the eve of my first BlogHer Food conference in Miami. We drove from Orlando, the weather is horrible. Bad storms and rain made the drive miserable. Severe thunderstorms have closed the airport so a lot of my fellow conference attendees have been tweeting about being stuck on diverted planes all across the state. A few won’t even make it in until tomorrow, the first day of the two-day conference. Boo.
This is a big conference for bloggers. People fly in from all over the country. Two years ago the conference was held in Seattle, last year in Austin, TX. This year, lucky for me, it is being held in Miami, just a few hours drive from Orlando. I’ve been to a few blogger conferences in Orlando before, but they were small compared to BlogHer food.
As we packed up this morning, the kids weren’t too happy with us leaving. However, one of our kids (Zoey) does get to go with us. She is diabetic and we have to make sure she eats every 12 hours. Lucky her! Too bad we have to leave the others behind. At least I will have a happy face to greet me when I get back to the hotel tomorrow (and someone to listen to all my stories!)
So the night before and I am incredibly nervous. It’s like the first day at a new school. I don’t know anyone. Will someone sit with me at lunch? Will I make any friends?
However, I am also incredibly excited for the opportunity to meet a whole bunch of new folks, people who blog just like me. So now I am a bundle of nerves and excitement.
I am looking forward to just getting there and learning a whole bunch of new stuff about healthy eating and blogging!
The weather has cleared up for now, Zoey is happy watching the traffic outside. Chad and I are heading out for some dinner. I can’t wait to share all my new knowledge with all of you!
Have you ever been to a big conference and not know anyone? Any advice how to handle nerves?
