I recently had an opportunity to spend a weekend in Ocala, FL, Marion County. And it was the best weekend ever. Ocala is located about an hour north of Orlando and the city is known as The Horse Capital of the World. There are over 700 horse farms in the area, and Ocala/Marion county is home to more horses than anywhere else in the United States. The area has also produced some of the finest champions in horse racing, with ties to the Triple Crown. Thoroughbred Champion American Pharoah [continue reading...]
I need my Dramamine
In just a few short weeks I will be heading to BlogHer ‘17 in Orlando!! And while I do live in Orlando, I will be out of town just prior to the conference so I will have to fly home. I love flying. I always talk and reminisce about my days when I was a Flight Attendant for Delta and I jetted off to countries like Switzerland and Germany. However, being a Flight Attendant isn’t always so glamorous. Besides living on airport food and working long hours, there was one little thing that I did not [continue reading...]
Butcher and Bee – Charleston, SC
We were looking for a unique restaurant to try some fresh and local fare on a recent trip to Charleston, SC and we found the perfect place- Butcher and Bee. Just slightly north of the downtown area, Butcher and Bee is hidden next to a photography studio and the High Wire Distillery. There is only a small sign painted on an adjoining building but it is well worth the hunt to get here. There are no paper menus. The only way to find the ever changing daily menu is on Facebook or Twitter. [continue reading...]
New reasons to visit Sea World Orlando
Most people that live in Central Florida have been to one of the theme parks in our area, and most people have a favorite one. My favorite happens to be Sea World. I love getting up close and persona with the animals, I love what Sea World does for animal rescue and the field of zoology. I love the many shows the park offers and the crazy roller coasters. I had the opportunity to have lunch with shamu and every year I participate in the Reindeer Run through the festively decorated park. Now [continue reading...]
Milk and Honey – Chattanooga, TN
There are some restaurants that really stand out on my travels. Restaurants that stand out for good reasons, and some not so good. However, n a recent to Chattanooga I found the perfect spot for breakfast and coffee. Milk and Honey is known for freshly baked goods, made from scratch popsicles and a light assortment of breakfast and lunch offerings. When we arrived on a Saturday morning, we found ourselves in a rather long line. However, the line moved really fast and efficiently and [continue reading...]
Se7en Bites – an iconic Orlando spot
Just a few years ago I published a post about this little bake shop over by the Orlando Executive Airport called Se7en Bites. This place is an Orlando favorite and a lot has changed since my first post. First of all, they moved into a much bigger location just up the street from their old home. Gone are the super long out-the-door lines and fighting for one of three tables. There is now plenty of parking, a separate line and space for meals and baked goods, and an abundance of tables in which to [continue reading...]
Philly Love Run Half Marathon
I recently completed my 16th Half Marathon. I was in my favorite city on the planet- Philadelphia and I was fortunate enough to have been chosen as a race ambassador for the Philly Love Run Half. I consider Philly to be my hometown so for me this was an extra special race. Mr. Beet and I arrived several days early so I could show him many of my favorite city sights, including my college (Temple University) and some of my apartments (there were many all over the city.) The [continue reading...]
New Balance and Savannah
I can’t believe we are only four days away from the 2017 Publix Savannah Women’s Half and 5K. I am always so excited to take a trip north to beautiful Savannah – there is just so much to do, especially during race weekend. I know there will be a trip to Leopold’s Ice Cream and we will absolutely being hitting up Green Truck Pub for some Pimento Veggie Burgers. But perhaps, my favorite part of the weekend will be the race itself – the Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K. This year I [continue reading...]
Take a Tour of the Whole Foods Flagship Store – Austin, TX
On September 20, 1980, a little market opened in Austin, TX, a store that has changed the way we shop for groceries today. In just 37 short years, Whole Foods has expanded to over 469 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Mr. Beet and I not only shop locally at Whole Foods in Orlando, we also grab meals from there often when we are out on the road. We have been to Whole Foods in places such as Utah, Tennessee and New York City, as we are always able to find tasty treats [continue reading...]
Welcome to San Antonio, Texas
I think I have a little bit of an obsession with Texas. There are so many cool little towns and cities, each with its own personality. I was very excited when Mr. Beet agreed to take a trip to San Antonio with me so we could explore the city and enjoy some good food. We basically spent 24 hours walking all over the city with no agenda. We did a lot and we also did much to nothing. Our day started with a trip to Ocho inside the Hotel Havana for breakfast. I loved the blackberry butter [continue reading...]
