5 out of 5 sprouts
Highway U.S. 31 is a busy thoroughfare thru Indiana stretching from South Bend to Indianapolis. At just about the halfway point, in Peru, is a quaint little apple orchard called McClure’s.
Chad’s Mom and I stopped in for lunch at the restaurant, which is called The Apple Dumplin’ Inn. It’s a very small restaurant with a very small menu. However, everything is made fresh and to order.
I ordered the egg salad croissant with a side of coleslaw and homemade applesauce. It was rather delicious.
The homemade applesauce tasted like it was freshly made- not at all like that jar stuff.
Chad’s Mom ordered the chicken salad croissant with red grapes. Though I don’t eat chicken, she really enjoyed it.
After lunch we strolled through the apple barn with its abundance of apples as well as a country gift shop.
There was also a selection of homemade jellies and butters including my most favorite apple butter.
And the dog employees! I absolutely fell in love with this guy!
I actually really loved McClure’s. We didn’t do a tour, go through the orchard or even sip on spiced apple cider, however, lunch was good and the store was fun. 5 out of 5 sprouts.

What a great thing to do in the Fall. I love the four-legged employee as well :-) What could be better?
