Since adapting a mostly vegetarian diet there is one thing I miss more than anything else. Hot dogs. I really miss hot dogs. I know, I’ve heard the stories of what really goes into hot dogs, I know I know. But I still miss them.
There are many veggie versions out there, some are just OK and some are sooo good that I have to double check to make sure they are vegetarian and not meat. I have always wanted to try the dogs at Pink’s, a world famous hot doggery in Los Angeles. Since 1936, Pink’s has served dogs to the citizens of Los Angeles and has been frequented by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Jay Leno and hundreds of other stars. (Check out the star gallery here). And now, there are a handful of locations outside of LA, including Miami, Las Vegas and the Philippines.
I have checked out the location inside the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio but they do not offer a Vegetarian option. However, the location in Las Vegas does and on a recent trip I had to drop in for a visit.
The menu in Vegas is very similar to that in Los Angeles. Fan favorites such as the Nacho Chili Cheese Dog and the Polish Pastrami Swiss Cheese Dog are available, as is the Vegetarian based Veggie Soy Dog. I always love when restaurants think of their Vegetarian fans.
Toppings offered include guacamole, coleslaw and nacho cheese, but I always tend to stick to my favorite – sauerkraut, mustard and grilled onions. I ordered my dog, along with a side of cheese fries and found a spot out on their fenced in patio, overlooking Las Vegas Boulevard. A great spot for people watching.
I loved everything about my dog. Maybe it was the spicy mustard, maybe it was the electric atmosphere of Vegas. Either way I loved my meal. If I had not had a bucket list of other places to eat in Vegas I surely would have had a dog every night.
Pink’s Hot Dogs is located inside the Miracle Mile shops at the Planet Hollywood Casino and Hotel. If you are looking for an inexpensive spot to pick up a quick Vegetarian bite before a show or on your shopping spree, Pink’s Hot Dogs is the way to go. 4 1/2 out of 5 sprouts.
