We have seen so many amazing shows as part of the Fairwinds Broadway in Orlando at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Shows like Finding Neverland and Wicked have delighted Orlandoans in the past several months. And now, we are in for a very special treat – The King and I will be rolling into town for 8 shows beginning this Tuesday September 12.
The King and I is a magical tale of a widowed school teacher, Anna Leonowens, as she arrives in Bangkok to tutor the many children belonging to the King of Siam (Siam later became Thailand). The show is a classic musical from Broadway’s glamorous heyday . The original production opened on Broadway in 1951 and ran for 1,246 performances, at the time becoming the fourth longest running show in Broadway history.
The music is composed by the dynamic duo of Rodgers & Hammerstein, the team behind other classic Broadway productions like Oklahoma!, Carousel, The Sound of Music, and South Pacific.
Fans of old school Broadway will be delighted by familiar tunes like “Getting to Know You”, “Shall We Dance?” and “I Have Dreamed”.
Move quick to get your tickets as the tour will only be here in Orlando until Sunday September 17. Performances are Tuesday September 12 through Saturday September 16 at 8pm, with additional shows Saturday at 2pm, and Sunday at 1pm and 6:30pm.
I have been singing Broadway tunes since my Annie days and The King and I has been on my bucket list ever since. Expect to see my toes tapping with every beat!!
