It’s Friday – time for the weekend. For me it’s time for another race – this time it’s the Gate River Run 15K, also known as the USA 15K Championship. While most of us are running for our own personal times, there are always a handful of elite athletes that compete for the title of US Champion. Well…maybe this year I will shock the world and win the whole thing.
The race is in Jacksonville, Florida, one of my most favorite towns to run in. And a road trip to Jacksonville means a stop at my favorite pizza joint – Say Cheese Pizza in Bunnell, Florida. I talk about this place all the time. I will never tire of the Gramma Pie and I will never apologize for never tiring of it. Never.
My race last week was good. I think what helped was the arrival of a package from the folks at New Balance.
They sent me an entire race outfit for the 2016 Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon, including a pair of new running shoes.
I wore the whole ensemble for my 5K race last weekend and I loved it. It is part of the new spring line for New Balance, one of the many outifts and pieces that will be found at the expo for the race in Savannah. Who is running Savannah? It’s not too late to sign up – use the code BEETS10 to save $10 off the entry fee.
After the race last weekend Mr. Beet and I grabbed lunch at a cool little diner in the College Park neighborhood of Orlando. The diner is called Shakers, and they have a huge vintage salt and pepper shaker collection. Seriously, I need that teapot and teacup shaker set.
All along the wall, on the tables, everywhere you look there are shakers.
And the egg salad ain’t bad either.
Then later that night we went over my Dad and Step-Mom’s house where she and I made buckeyes. I had never heard of buckeyes until a recent trip to Ohio and I have certainly never made them at home. My Step-Mom sent us home with a plate of these little peanut butter devils and they were gone within 24 hours. I am not telling you whether it was Mr. Beet or I that ate most of them but man I love peanut butter and chocolate.
This week we also ended up on a trip down to Southwest Florida for a few days as Mr. Beet had some work there. I love the Ft. Myers/Naples area and I especially love the Gulf beaches – so serene and lush.
And on the way home we stopped in Plant City to visit Parkesdale Market. Right now Plant City is jammed with the Florida Strawberry Festival. Get it, jammed? While we didn’t go to the festival, we did enjoy one of Parkesdale’s famous strawberry shakes. Oh my. So worth the stop.
One of these days I am going to try the strawberry shortcake, but I doubt I will ever get past that shake.
While there I also picked up a bag of deep fried peanuts. So, apparently you can eat the shells as well. I tried the shell and it just didn’t seem natural.
However, there are other flavors to choose from- I am thinking I will try the garlic next time.
And there was a lot on the Beets blog this week in case you missed anything.
So you guys have a great weekend and I will check back in with you on Monday for Meatless Monday. For now check out the rest of the Friday Favorites party. I am linking up with Heather from Life in Leggings, Andrea fromMomfessionals, Narci from Grace and Love Blog, Erika from A Little Bit of Everything, Angela from Happy Fit Mama and Katie from Running 4 Cupcakes.
Happy Friday!

I'm SO intruiged by deep fried peanuts?! I feel like I wouldn't be too much of a fan of eating the shells, but my husband would. The Florida Strawberry fest is one of those things that are onn my bucket list - those shakes look amazing!
